Engaging & Blessing During the Pandemic

April 26, 2020 | Engaging and Blessing

Even with the stay-at-home order in place, there are still a few things we can do to help others.  This page is just a start; we hope to add others.  Please check back regularly for other opportunities, and please make us aware if you know of safe serving opportunities (contact Susanna Allen at sallen@kschurch.org.)

Cards of Encouragement for CROSS

Christian Residential Opportunities and Social Services (CROSS), Inc. provides residential service to adults with developmental disabilities. Presently, there are three area group homes, each with 6-8 residents.

These dear brothers and sisters in Christ haven’t been able to go to work due to the stay-at-home order, and being confined to their home has been a difficult adjustment.  They just love receiving mail.  We know that receiving some cheerful letters would be a great encouragement to the residents.  Consider including photos, handmade artwork, or a small gift.  One of the beautiful things about the CROSS residents is they are easily thrilled by simple gestures.

Additionally, your prayers and support are most appreciated.  Send your mail to one of the three homes:

  • Cumberland Vista, 1073 York Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019
  • Griffith House, 1345 Appleway, Saint Thomas, PA 17252
  • Grace Home, 712 Pinola Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257

Frozen Meals for CROSS

(This opportunity would require leaving home; if you would be interested in contributing a meal, we hope you will combine the drop-off with another approved errand.)   All three homes described in the opportunity above are also accepting soup and freezer meals that can be used whenever.  Because of restrictions caused by the coronavirus, the houses have been operating with minimal staff.  Having easy-to-prepare meals will be incredibly helpful.  Please prepare enough to serve 15 people.  Friends are invited to drop them outside our locked doors and let us know they are here by calling the contact numbers above.

  • Cumberland Vista, 1073 York Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019  (Contact number: (717-432-2822)
  • Griffith House, 1345 Appleway, Saint Thomas, PA 17252  (Contact number: 717-369-2910)
  • Grace Home, 712 Pinola Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257  (Contact number:  717-530-1788)

Cards of Encouragement for Shook Home

Shook Home is calling on all children, students, community members etc. to send our residents a nice letter or card to show how much we care about them and how they are in our thoughts during this tough time.

Cards can be mailed:  Shook Home, Attn: Activities Department, 55 S. Second Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201

Donations of Games, Books, and Art Supplies for Recovery Homes

(This opportunity would require leaving home; if you would be interested in making a donation, we hope you will combine the drop-off with another approved errand.)  Common triggers for people in recovery are boredom and isolation. Right now, with the stay-at-home order in effect, this is quickly becoming an area of caution. The  residents at Noah’s House and Gracie’s Place (Christian recovery homes) can alleviate some of this caution area through staying occupied when not in online recovery meetings and groups.  They are gladly receiving any gently used board games, books, magazines, and art supplies.

Please contact Maggie Lloyd at mlloyd@noahshouse.org to plan for arrangements for Safe Space Drop Off.  All donations will go towards helping someone in Recovery.
