Pastor Aaron Perry
Season’s Meetings: A Series for Advent
Death: When Life Meets Its End

Experience & Encounter

These questions are an invitation to experience your life with God. Use them on your own or in community as you seek to follow Jesus.

  1. During Advent we prepare for the second coming of Christ by preparing to celebrate the first coming of Christ. In a few weeks, we will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, God made flesh. God the Son took on flesh and was born of a virgin and was named Jesus. Jesus also died. Each of us was born and each of us will die. What difference does it make to you that Jesus went through both of these experiences? How can you face death in confidence and faith knowing Jesus himself has died?
  2. What scares you about death? Maybe it is the loss of control, the care of loved ones left behind, the uncertainty of the experience. How does trust in God speak to our fears in death?
  3. Paul describes death as an enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26). But just as in real life, there are right and wrong ways to fight our enemies. We might fight death in a faithful way by being good stewards of our bodies. We might fight death in unhealthy ways by obsessing with youth and denying age. How have you seen people “fight death” in God-honoring ways? How have you seen people “fight death” in unhealthy ways?

Poinsettia Dedications

It is a tradition at KSC to dedicate a Christmas poinsettia in honor of or in memory of a loved one ($10.50 per plant). You can pick up a form in the lobby, sign up at the church office at 56 N. Second Street, or pay online here.

Light in the Night

Light in the Night is a gentle, reflective gathering hosted by our RESET ministry for anyone who could use a quiet moment of peace during the holiday season. We know this time of year can hold both joy and challenges; many are grieving, overwhelmed, walking through a hard season, or simply longing for a calm, meaningful pause. Join us on Monday, December 15, at 6:30 pm in the Baker Center, for worship, Scripture, reflection, testimonies, and elements that remind us that the light of Christ shines even in the darkest nights. It’s okay to show up just as you are.  We’ll also enjoy community and cookies afterward. If your heart could use a soft place to land this season, we hope you’ll come to rest, breathe, and remember that hope is near.

PrimeTimers Christmas Luncheon

The PrimeTimers’ Christmas Luncheon for all adults is Wednesday, December 10, at 12 noon in the Baker Center. We will enjoy a catered meal of stuffed chicken breast and all the trimmings — just the thing to get us in the Christmas spirit!  Entertainment will be provided by CASHS Choristers. The cost is $20 per person. To register, call Frances Humelsine at (717) 263-8633 and/or mail payment to her at 408 Benjamin Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.  The deadline to register is tomorrow, December 1.

Waiting for Jesus Family Event

Our KidMin Children’s Ministry invites families to a special Christmas event on Sunday, December 7, from 5:30–7:30 pm in the Baker Center gym. Together we’ll take a journey through Scripture — from Isaiah’s prophecies spoken 700 years before Christ’s birth, to the night our Savior was born — and explore what that means for us today. We’ll share a meal, sing Christmas songs, enjoy games, and make a craft to help us keep our focus on Jesus this Christmas. Each family will receive resources to help reflect on the Advent season.  Sign up HERE.

  • HELP NEEDED! We’re looking for volunteers to help prepare for our Waiting for Jesus Family Christmas Event on Monday, December 1, from 11:00 am–4:00 pm and Wednesday, December 3, from 10:00 am–4:00 pm. Tasks include prepping gifts, wrapping boxes, sprucing up Christmas trees, and organizing supplies for event activities.
  • We also need strong helpers to set up tables and chairs in the Baker Center after the 9:30 Baker service on Sunday, December 7. If you’re able to serve in either way, please email Heidi Roseman.

Night to Shine

Our celebration for people with special needs is Friday, February 13, 2026 and the website is now open for both guests and volunteers. We have flyers that explain more about Night to Shine in the lobbies; they contain an insert that briefly describes each volunteer role.  Please visit the website and sign up to serve with us at this amazing event.

Men’s Alliance Tribe Launch

King Street Church is launching a Men’s Alliance tribe—a weekly gathering where men are strengthened through real brotherhood, biblical truth, and physical challenge. Men’s Alliance is a nationwide movement that calls men to stand shoulder-to-shoulder as they grow in character, courage, and faith.  Our first gathering is this Saturday, December 6, at 8:00 am, behind the KSC Ministry Center. We’ll meet every Saturday morning after that.  Justin Shirk is leading our tribe; each meeting includes an outdoor 30 minute workout, and a 30 minute devotional around a fire.  Come build friendships, be encouraged, and take a step toward deeper spiritual growth. Bring a friend and join us for the launch!

Christmas at KSC

Christmas is one of our favorite seasons at King Street Church.  On Sunday mornings throughout December, we will enjoy special music during worship services.  We invite you to participate in any one (or all!) of these activities which celebrate the birth of Christ! Visit our Christmas Page to see all the details.

Prayer Ministry at KSC

  • Sunday Prayer Ministry: On the first and third Sundays of each month, from 9:30–10:45 am, the Prayer Room will be open for a dedicated time of prayer. Missy Ardinger will be leading in prayer for King Street Church—lifting up our worship services, pastors, Sunday School teachers, our congregation, and also our nation and world.  Everyone is welcome to join—whether you’d like to pray aloud, share requests, or simply sit quietly in God’s presence.  Questions, reach out to Missy.
  • If My People Pray Prayer Group: If My People Pray is a prayer gathering to seek the heart of God on behalf of our church, state, country, and world. It meets monthly, the first Monday of the month from 7-8:00 pm in Room M21. Wally and Lisa Black are the contacts.

RESET

Our healing ministry meets on Monday nights at 6:00 pm in the Student Ministry Center. This is a place to find community for ANY “issue” that keep you from abundant life in Christ… anxiety, depression, grief, interpersonal struggles, chemical addiction… whatever you’re dealing with, you’ll find encouragement and understanding at RESET.

While those who attend the groups may be of different ages, backgrounds, and dealing with different challenges, we have found that a rare closeness has grown around the time of confidential sharing. See more about Reset HERE.

  • HELP NEEDED! We are looking for someone to oversee our childcare ministry.  This person would help to schedule our volunteer workers, keep an eye on supplies, and check-in on Monday nights to make sure all is going smoothly with the kids.
  • Save the date for Light in the Night on Monday, December 15, at 6:30 pm in the Baker Center.  This peaceful, reflective gathering hosted by RESET will help you to pause and experience Christ’s hope this season.

Support OMM

Once More Ministries is a King Street-led ministry that shares the love of Jesus by providing toiletries to people in need in our community. Our next distribution is Saturday, December 13, and we are in need of donations.  We are seeing a significant increase in people attending our distributions. The need is very great!  There are two ways to help:

  • Shop our Amazon Wish List.  Choose from the selected items/quantities and Amazon can deliver the items directly to the church.
  • If you prefer to shop in-person, pick up a list of needed items, which is available at the bins in the lobbies.

Prayer

We believe that God works powerfully through prayer!  There is a table in each of our worship spaces and you’re invited to use it to take or leave a Prayer Card.  You can also submit a request to our online Prayer Wall, or text pray to (717) 401-7777.   You can take a card and pray for each other— either take the card home and pray over the request, or take one at the beginning of the service and return it before leaving.  You can also leave a card; if you have a request or praise that you’d like to share, fill out the card and leave it on the table (you do not have to provide your name).

Adult Sunday School

Sunday School classes are a place where adults can plug-in, make friends, become accountable, and share life with others. Classes serve as mini congregations that support missionaries, engage in ministries, and fellowship outside of class. We also offer Bible Studies for both men and women. See a list of adult Sunday School classes and links to the pages for men/women HERE.

Chronological Bible Reading Plan

It is important to read the Bible daily, and that is why we offer an annual Bible Reading Plan.  We are excited about revisiting the Chronological Bible Reading Plan for 2025.  Each day’s reading will be supplemented by insightful videos provided by “The Bible Recap.” Some of our staff have used these materials and have found them to be a valuable resource.

If you have never participated in the plan, we encourage you to join the more than 400 people who use these readings as part of their daily devotions.  The plan is offered several ways. Those who are already signed up will be included in the new plan.

  • Receive daily EMAILS of that day’s Scripture: Sign up at bible.kingstreetchurch.com
  • Receive daily TEXTS to your device: Text keyword “DAILY” to (717) 401-7777
  • Use a paper SCHEDULE, available in the lobbies.

Weekend Preview Emails

Most weeks, we send out a church email called the Weekend Preview which highlights a key event, ministry, or an element of upcoming worship services.  Often the information shared in this email is not offered elsewhere.  If you would like to receive the Weekend Preview, sign up here or text keyword PREVIEW to (717) 401-7777.
