Meet Our Interns!

July 16, 2022 | Uncategorized

It’s an important tradition at King Street Church to help train young adults to serve God in ministry. We are so blessed to have three interns this summer who are both professionally skilled and eager to commit their time to God. We can’t say that their summer “vacation” will all be fun and games, but we do hope their time will be rich in experience.

 Anna Schaffer, Media & Production

Anna is serving in a variety of areas of media and production as part of her unpaid internship, which will fulfill service hours. She and Blake, listed below with the Creative Arts Internship, will both be running equipment behind-the-scenes during our worship services and will be helping to tell stories of God at work through special video presentations.

“My name is Anna Schaffer and I will be a junior at Liberty University this fall. My future is a blank canvas waiting to be filled with God’s plans for my life. I would like to be doing something in the film industry, but who knows what God has in store for my life.

“I wanted to intern at KSC because I thought it would be a great opportunity to get experience in filming and editing in a controlled Christian environment. I have loved getting to know other staff members and getting to do the things I hope to do in my future. I want to serve God through KSC with my abilities. I want to gain knowledge and experience that will prepare me for my career.

“KSC is made up of truly amazing dedicated people who don’t get enough credit for all of their hard work. God is working here and I am happy to be a part of it, even if just for a summer.”

Blake Rhoades, Creative Arts Internship

Blake has attended King Street Church for over 10 years and has spent much time participating in ministry here. He is a Senior at the University of Pittsburg. His goal is to work for an advertising company to make commercials and ads, and do freelance videography and photography work. Blake pursued the internship at King Street because, he says, “It not only enhances my technical skills, but it does something to glorify God and His kingdom.”

Blake says, “The amazing people I have the opportunity to work with have already left an impression on me. Also, something that has stood out to me is how involved KSC is with its partner ministries.” As the summer continues, Blake says, “I hope to accomplish new and improved skills in all areas of my field of study, from technical skills to organizational skills.” Just last week Blake had an exciting announcement to make at our Monday AllStaff meeting: he has just become engaged to Emma Bert, his long-time girlfriend and another King Street member.

Xavier Schell, Prime Student with Student Ministries

The Prime internship is an intensive 7-month immersion into ministry as a capstone to their education at Huntington University (which is the school connected to our United Brethren in Christ denomination).

“My name is Xavier Schell and I attend Huntington University which is in Indiana. I am actually from Huntington as well. I will be a senior. I am getting married in December and then will be finishing my last semester of college. After that, I plan on working for a church in youth ministry and walking through that journey with my soon-to-be wife.

“I wanted to pursue my internship at King Street because of the amazing ministries that this church offers and how God is working through them. A church like King Street is a new experience for me, but the first characteristic I noticed about King Street is how kind and caring the people are that attend, and how willing they are to serve. I look forward to my time here, as I learn from Matt, Rob, and Lauren how they do youth ministry and how my time here can help me as I follow my calling into youth ministry.”
