Back-to-School Community Event

One of our most cherished annual traditions is the Back-to-School Community Event.

Attend the Community Event: 

Thursday, August 4:  All our welcome to come and get a backpack filled with school supplies!  Families are invited to come at specific times based on last name.  We will reserve new amounts of backpacks for each time slot and while we cannot promise we won’t run out of bags, usually we have enough.  Families will be asked to register and present some form of identification.  Important!  The child must be present in order to receive a backpack.  If you have any questions, contact Jeanie Helman at 264-4651, ext. 206, or email her at jhelman@kschurch.org.

5:00-6:00 – H-P
6:00-7:00 – Q-Z

 

Donate to Fill a Backpack: 

Again this year, we have the opportunity to bless hundreds of families in our community, by giving away backpacks filled with supplies for their school-aged children.

We are asking for monetary donations, again this year, so that our Crosswalk KidMin Team can purchase the exact items to fulfill the list for each bag.

So, what does it cost to fill a book bag? The average cost is about $25-30 for the book bag and supplies. Items included in the backpacks are: pencil box, pencils, large erasers, glue sticks, notebook paper, pocket folders, markers and crayons. Book bags for secondary students also include pens, highlighters, binders, and scientific calculators, depending on the grade level.

Would you be willing to fill a book bag or two? Or donate whatever you would normally spend on supplies? You can contribute either of these ways:

  • To donate you can contribute online through our Service Central page:  Sponsor a Bag (click)
  • To donate by check, send your check (memo marked “Back2School event”) to the church office at 56 N. Second Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or drop in the offering box.

Help to Prepare the Backpacks: 

Tuesday, August 2, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm:   Using the provided supplies, volunteers will work together to fill the backpacks, based on grade level. Please let Jeanie Helman know if you can help (jhelman@kschurch.org or 717-264-4651 ext. 206) or sign up online:  Prepare Backpacks (click)

 

Event Volunteer: 

Thursday, August 4:   3 time slots: (3:30-5:00)   (4:45-6:00)   (5:45-7:15)

Throughout our distribution day, we anticipate blessing hundreds of our community families with backpacks filled with supplies for their school-aged children. Volunteers are needed in a variety of ways:

  • Greeters
  • Translators
  • Registration
  • Distribution
