Abundant Life

January 6, 2024 | Uncategorized

Hello King Street family.  It’s an interesting contrast, isn’t it… a lush landscape as we have snow coming down outside.  But really, it makes ALL the sense in the world right now.  Snow or no snow, in-person or online, we are prepared to enter a new season of rich, growing, beautiful, thriving life in Christ. Life to the FULL. Life that is not dependent on circumstances. Life that shines a light on the Gospel for our friends, family, and community to see.

Our new sermon series — which kicks off an all-year theme of Abundant Life — begins on Sunday, January 7. This series and theme are the product of thoughtful, prayerful collaboration of our entire pastoral team, led by Executive Pastor Steve Flint. Here is a description of the new series from Adam Keath, Pastor of Restoration & Recovery:

We’re heading into 2024 together zeroing in on Jesus, what He said and taught, and how He lived. We feel that 2024 will no doubt present a lot of challenges to us in our world. And we want to be proactive in helping our church body consider how Jesus moved in the world with things like grace, gentleness, love, and forgiveness. Maybe the last few years of tension in the world snuck up on us, and we just reacted sometimes rather than considering the person of Christ and our mission to love ourselves, our neighbors, and each other (I know I did!) Not this time!

We’re going to let Jesus’ life and words guide us as we intentionally Engage and Makarios our Community with the Gospel (That will make sense on Sunday).

Wouldn’t it be amazing, on the days when it may seem like everything is falling apart, if our community here in Chambersburg would look at King Street Church and say, “Those folks love each other so well! Why are they so kind…gentle…loving…gracious…patient….peace-filled?”  That is our hope for 2024.

Beginning Sunday, we’ll be looking at the Beatitudes, kind of Jesus’ blue print for the good life, and then after several weeks, we’ll shift into the gospel of Mark. That will take us the whole way to Easter. Please join us as we follow the Way of Jesus toward The Abundant Life.

Winter Weather Announcements

You have probably seen the forecast of winter weather on Saturday. Pastor Steve and John Little (Facilities Manager) have already been consulting about the situation and will continue to consider many factors when it comes to safety on Sunday morning. If the weather is going to obviously restrict the in-person gathering of any of our services, we will roll out announcements no later than 6:00 am on Sunday morning.

NO NEWS means ALL SERVICES are on-time and meeting as usual. We are not going to publish announcements to say we ARE on-time.

  • Church Website: kingstreetchurch.com
A banner will appear across the top of the homepage. If you want to double-check, see this page: Winter Weather  This is really the easiest way to check for any schedule changes.
  • Social Media: Facebook or Instagram
We will make a clear post with any updates if there are any to make.
  • Email/Text:  We will be sending a mass email and a mass text for those who are on our lists. If you’re getting THIS email, then you’re on the email list!
  • Church Phone: You can call the church phone at (717) 264-4651; we plan to update our message with any changes.
  • Radio Stations: We will be calling WCRH The Compass and Mix95 with any updates. If you already enjoy these stations, you can listen for news. However, this may be the least easy way to find out.

Please keep in mind, we will try to keep the church open if at all possible, but we cannot judge your personal situation. If your home is not safe to leave, if you are not in a position to “dig out,” please make a decision that is wise for you and your family.

Online Worship

Should circumstances prevent worshipping in-person this Sunday, we will worship online, and the times for that will be announced in our service updates.

As a reminder, you can participate in these ways:

Our channels on Apple TV and Roku.

Sunday’s message sets the stage for our focus as a church family for this year. We encourage you, if weather prevents in-person gathering, PLEASE TUNE IN so you don’t miss this important service.
