OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, and every year they send millions of filled shoeboxes to children in need around the world. Not only do the children receive school supplies, personal care items and toys, but they are given a booklet which introduces them to the Good News of the Gospel in their own language. This year you have a variety of ways in which to participate in this project. Scroll down for the whole list. Also, if you are late in submitting your box (the King Street Church collection day is Sunday, November 12), then see this link for other local locations that may collect all week long: Local Drop Off Locations.

shoeboxes
  • Starting October 15, you can pick up pre-wrapped, empty shoeboxes from one of our lobbies. Fill the boxes according to the guidelines listed inside and return your boxes to the lobbies by November 12.
  • Build a Shoebox ONLINE option: King Street Church now has our own page for keeping track of how many people in our church use the Build a Shoebox option.  These boxes are carefully packed by OCC volunteers with high quality items.  We were told the boxes are filled to bursting and go to some of the most unreached areas of the world!  You can fill one of these online boxes until November 26.

Aren’t sure how to pack a box?  There are some thing to know!   Visit this page: DO’s and DON’Ts for a list of things to include and to avoid.  We want to emphasize that personalizing the box is a great idea.  Include a note from your family or a photo.

If you are physically building a box, we are blessed to have a Shoebox Supply House in nearby Shippensburg, where you can purchase items that are perfect for boxes (and OCC-approved) at a greatly reduced price. You can either purchase items to supplement your boxes or can fill boxes right there at the warehouse.  They aren’t open every day; check their schedule before your visit.

Operation Christmas Child offers a coloring page where your child can add their name, a photo, and personal information to help them to make a personal connection with the child who will receive the box.  You can add your address and the children who are able — or who have help from their church or school — can write you back!

This year the Spangler family received a letter and photo back from the child who received their box.  It was a great encouragement to actually see and hear from the little girl that they blessed.
