Walk This Way: Walking into Temptation

02/22/2026|Pastor Aaron Perry

In this sermon, Pastor Aaron Perry,  unpacks the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness to show how Christians can resist temptation and walk in obedience by trusting the word of God. It teaches that the word of God is God’s written word, God’s revealed word in Jesus Christ, and God’s proclaimed word empowered by the Holy Spirit, calling believers to build their lives on Scripture rather than on feelings, shortcuts, or cultural pressure. Using the story of Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness, the message highlights how real spiritual warfare, temptation, and idolatry work—offering “greatness” and control at the cost of allegiance to God—and how Jesus overcomes every test where Israel and humanity failed. This Christ-centered sermon on spiritual warfare, obedience, and discipleship urges Christians to walk this way: to submit to God’s authority, refuse to put God to the test, reject idols, and rely on every word that comes from the mouth of God in their daily battles with temptation.

Temptation is something every person faces. In this sermon, Walking Into Temptation, Pastor Aaron Perry explores what the Bible teaches about temptation and how followers of Jesus can walk faithfully through it. Through Scripture and practical reflection, this message helps us understand how God strengthens our faith even in moments of testing.

This sermon invites you to reflect on God’s Word, including passages such as 1 John 1:7 and the prayer of Jesus in Matthew 6:13: “Lead us not into temptation.” As believers walk in the light of Christ, we are reminded that God does not abandon us in temptation but walks with us, guiding us toward deeper faith and spiritual growth.

Experience & Encounter

These questions are an invitation to experience your life with God. Use them on your own or in community as you seek to follow Jesus.

  1. God’s Word is God’s Written Word, the Word Made Flesh, and the Proclaimed Word. When you speak God’s Word aloud by faith, you are proclaiming God’s Word by God’s Spirit. These are not magic words, but a powerful practice of God’s presence. Together, we are memorizing 1 John 1:7 through Lent. Take some time to practice proclaiming the Word of God by faith this week. At the end of the week, reflect on how God used that practice in your life.
  2. Take some time to pray the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:13), specifically “Lead us not into temptation.” You are not praying this prayer to change God’s intention, but to know God. God does not lead us into temptation to leave us there, but God will lead us through temptation to deepen, strengthen, and prove to us our faith.
  3. Through Lent, we are encouraging you to walk a route, as you are able, to remember that Christ walks the life of faith with us. Christ walks with you physically just as truly as He walks with us spiritually. If you are not able to walk physically, consider another practice with duration, like listening to a specific song, reading a specific Psalm, or the repeated, slow read of a story from Jesus’ life.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 JOHN 1:7 NIV
