The Book of James: Who Can Control the Tongue? – James 3:1-12

Experience & Encounter

These questions are an invitation to experience your life with God. Use them on your own or in community as you seek to follow Jesus.

  1. Pastor Aaron used James 3:2 to describe the strength and glory of Jesus Christ: Christ is the perfect man who can keep His body, the church, in check. This might include being contentious, accusatory, angry, dishonest, ungrateful, or others. Are there areas in your speech that need to be brought under Christ’s authority? How can you find gracious support or accountability with your tongue being held in check?
  2. Christ wants to change us so that our words align—so that we do not bless God and curse others. This means that Christ is powerful enough to change our very nature. What about you, has Christ already brought into alignment? How has He remade you and where is He remaking you?
  3. Pastor Aaron pointed out the wisdom of James’ advice, that not many should be teachers, but that we are all called to be witnesses. How can you testify to God this week?
