The Beatitudes: Giving Away When We Are Taught to Get Even

10/26/2025|Pastor Aaron Perry

EXPERIENCE & ENCOUNTER

These questions are an invitation to experience your life with God. Use them on your own or in community as you seek to follow Jesus.

When was a time you received mercy or that you gave mercy? If possible, can you

  1. share a little about this experience? How did giving mercy make you feel? How did receivingmercy make you feel?
  2. Jesus blessed the merciful and promised them mercy. Consider this: When we receive mercy but do not pass on mercy, we become incapable of receiving more mercy. Why? Because mercy won’t make sense. The unmerciful are increasingly suspicious of the mercy they receive. Does this thought ring true to you? Why or why not?
  3. In Micah 6, God tells us to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly. Why do you think it is important to love mercy? How can we be faithful to Jesus’ teaching about mercy even in situations where we don’t show mercy or our mercy isn’t obvious? (For example, a person removed from employment fairly and not restored to the same job.)
