Maundy Thursday Communion Service
- Thursday, April 1, at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary
- Online: Facebook, YouTube and live.kingstreetchurch.com, and through our channels on Roku and Apple TV
On Thursday, April 1, you are invited to join us in-person or online for a Maundy Thursday Communion Service. Pastor Steve Flint will be leading us in Scripture, a responsive reading, prayer, and the sharing of elements.
If you will be joining us online, we ask that you prepare the elements in advance; you can use chunks of bread or crackers and juice of any kind. Set these elements in the room where you plan to worship. We encourage you to choose a special dish or cloth as part of your display; consider lighting a candle. These suggestions are to help in creating a sacred moment as we take communion together.
The word “maundy” is an abbreviated form of the Latin word “mandatum,” which means command, or mandate. When Jesus was sharing the Last Supper with His disciples He told them, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
We celebrate Maundy Thursday to remember the Last Supper, to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus, and to meditate on this commandment to love and serve others.
