Digging Deeper with Pastor Jody

January 20, 2019 | Pastor Jody

The new Bible reading plan for 2019 will take us through the Scriptures in three steps– a daily Old Testament passage, a New Testament passage, and either a Psalm or a Proverb.  To help us to dig a little deeper into the text, Pastor Jody will be writing three questions for every day.  We asked him to share more about this new approach.

One of the things we emphasize here at King Street is the great value of spending time in God’s Word each and every day. We want people to be obsessed with Jesus—and we believe the most effective way of cultivating this is by spending time alone with God in the Scriptures daily.

To help make this happen—we make available a daily reading plan. Our pattern is to approach things a little differently each calendar year. Last year (2018), we focused strictly on the New Testament, reading about a chapter a day starting in Matthew and ending in Revelation. This year our plan is to read a portion of the Old Testament (typically 2 chapters), a portion of the New Testament (typically 1 chapter), and either a Psalm or a chapter from the Book of Proverbs.

It’s definitely an ambitious goal—which is why I wanted to do my part in HELPING you stay with it. I’m reading ahead of you a bit, and am creating three questions that come out of the three passages of Scripture that you’re reading each day. There’s nothing “canned” or “borrowed” about it. I’m simply spending time reading each passage, and writing out a question that comes to my mind as a read. My HOPE in doing this is to generate further thought and contemplation. Perhaps the question that I ask will be the exact question that the reading generated in your own heart!

So how do you access these questions? You need to subscribe to the (FREE!) daily reading plan. Click the link: Bible Reading Plan 2019, scroll to the bottom of the page, and enter your email address and/or your cell phone number. From then on, you’ll get an email (or a text—or both!) delivered right to your phone or computer. The email will contain the actual Scripture reading for the day. And at the bottom…will be the three questions. Delivered right from my heart to yours!

Please—take advantage of this! Get signed up, and start reading. And if four chapters seems too much on a given day, just read the Psalm or the Proverb (and the corresponding question). The key is—do something! I promise you—the time you spend in God’s Word will pay rich dividends in your heart and life!
