New Doors of Ministry

April 20, 2023 | KSC News, Pastor Jody

On Thursday, April 13, Pastor Jody shared this letter through our weekly email, the Weekend Preview.  We will hold a reception where the church family can say goodbye to Pastor Jody and Caryn on Sunday, April 30, directly after worship services at 12 noon.

Greetings King Street Family—

I’m afraid that today’s Weekend Preview comes with some weighty news. After nearly eight years of ministry with you all here at King Street, the Lord is calling Caryn and me to move to Greenville, South Carolina where I will be one of the campus pastors at Summit Church. You can well imagine that we don’t come to this decision lightly. The bottom line is that this is an opportunity that we simply can’t pass up.

I think I make it pretty clear week in and week out how much Caryn and I enjoy spending time with our children. Four of our kids live in Greenville—and three of them attend Summit Church (my daughter-in-law is actually one of the worship leaders). The Lord has opened up this door to pastor in the very spot where some of my kids live and worship. That said—it is with a very heavy heart that we move on from King Street. Words can never express the love and appreciation that we feel for all of you. God is moving in mighty ways here at King Street Church, and it has been a true honor and joy to serve as your pastor these many years.

Thank you. Thank you for your love, and support. Thank you for your generosity. I love you all, and can promise you that you will remain in my prayers as the Lord leads us into all that He has in store. God is faithful—we can trust Him.

April 10, 2023

Dear King Street Church Elders, Board of Administration and Church Family,

It is with deeply bitter/sweet emotions that I inform you that I am stepping down as senior pastor of King Street Church. I intend my last Sunday in the pulpit to be Sunday, April 30, 2023.

It was eight years ago this month that I began conversations with the pastoral search team. The Lord was SO GOOD in opening the door for Caryn and me and our family to enter into the amazing work of God here at King Street—an honor and a joy that goes beyond words. I love King Street Church. I love the people. I love the heart. I love the mission. I have loved standing in the pulpit nearly every Sunday these many years and opening the Word of God together (which has included more than a few maps!). To tell you that I’m leaving is deeply emotional, and bitter in many ways.

The sweet is in seeing how the Lord is opening new doors of ministry in Greenville, South Carolina. It is no secret how much Caryn and I love being with our family. Summit Church in Greenville has called me to join their team as the campus pastor of their Cherrydale congregation. Three of my children attend this church—and my daughter-in-law is the worship leader. It is an opportunity that we simply can’t pass up.

I love you, and will miss you. We’ve journeyed together through unprecedented times these past few years. And through it all—we’ve continued to live the call. And even when we don’t know what to do, we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

In Christ,

Pastor Jody Bowser
